Peter Tomearas: Stop at a carriage, worth five thousand, four hundred, fifty-two bits! That brings your total up to nine thousand, five hundred forty-eight!
Harvest: One more time. Big bits, stay away Whammies, don’t need a Whammy, STOP!
[WOH-OOH]
Tammy Whammette: [as Daring Do, swinging on a rope made of bit signs] Another day, another windfall! [runs into Caballeron]

I don’t think it was a matter of memorization so much as just an observation that one of the panels was literally never a whammy and always aiming for that one.
My favorites:
Boy George “Who would ever hurt a Whaaaaaaamyyyy. Who would ever h-OWWWW!”
Barbershop Quartet (only with 4 Whammies aka Game Over) “You’re out, you’re out, you’re out. YOU’RE OUT!”
