Well I’ll put it to you this way. While they have charged me a fuckton, thanks to H&R Block I’ve seen some absolutely massive tax returns. Even after taking out their fees, I’ve come out on top with way more money than I did after Trump’s new tax deal, which aimed to solve this “problem” by removing federal deductions and simplifying fed tax reporting.
 
I think that even if you were going for he little man, you would want to keep the tax law complicated because it allows impoverished people to pay practically nothing in taxes as almost anything would be counted as a “business expense”

That’s mostly because corporations and the wealthy have engineered the tax code to be as brobdingnagianly complex as humanly possible, so they can conceal the fact that they’re ripping off America– and the American Taxpayer– by weaseling out of paying their fair share to maintain the system which allowed them to be wealthy in the first place. We could have a vastly simpler and much fairer tax code, but that would involve billionaires actually having to pay taxes, so it ain’t gonna happen.

Payroll taxes are automatically withheld from most paychecks as FICA here as well; taxpayers run the numbers themselves– or hire someone else to do it– because those deductions are based on government estimations of a person’s income, estimations which are often not based on “common sense” or “reality”, and most people end up being owed some of it back at the end of the year.

No, not at all. It’s not an issue that’s ever really cropped up – not least because people would catch on very quickly and cause a massive stink if the government ever tried something like that.
