Yes, which is effectively the best bossfight. At least point of no return is two scenes later than that fight, so you still can reset afterwards.

It’s designed to be as frustrating as it possibly can be without being completely RNG/impossible.
And then he just had to put the best bossfight in the game behind that.
Which really isn’t that surprising considering every boss (except one) previously had also died in one hit because genocide following the in-universe mechanics and logic makes you crazy evil strong. It’s only a slight fake-out because the boss’s design and music somewhat resemble that one exception boss.
The whole point of genocide mode is to make the experience as unsatisfying as possible, to make being a remorseless killer 100% your own awful decision.

Mettaton is a robot built by Dr Alphys. On the genocide path he supposedly gets upgraded and has a kickass theme song and some build up. You brace yourself for battle and… he dies in one hit
