Biased much? Idk about you, but just about… actually any person I know here who lived under “communism” (though the correct term is socialism, more about it later) has surprisingly fond memories, and they aren’t limited to my home area but go from as far as Kiev to Tver to Leningrad both rural and urban.
Problem isn’t about communism. The problem is human nature which always gravitates towards individual short-term gains over prolonged collective benefits. Sooner or later enough of such people get to power to corrode the system which leads to the eventual collapse.
And another thing. There is a good quote: “you can’t build communism in a single separate country” which kinda turns whole “communism” into a Utopia of sorts. This is why USSR and such referred to itself as “socialist” actually.
Also @Gamey_the_Geemer
looks like someone who did his homework on what communism is. Unlike @Crazieman
I’ve seen enough cults around here. I’ve seen how they work. You can’t seriously mistake cult for communism unless you have a serious misconception of either.
@Gamey_the_Geemer
Communism frequently has cult like leader worship. Kim jung un/il, stalin, mao for example. Plus every single society always has social classes eventually because some people use the provided resources(money, rations, etc) more or less efficiently than others which eventually causes a “rich” poor division. Even if the “rich” are also frequently starving as well in these regimes. It was pretty obvious that the writers wanted this to be a communist episode though. I mean they even had a parade through the town haha. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that communism isn’t awful. The whole ‘not true communism’ idea is just wishful thinking perpetuated and encouraged by those that want to be in the ruling class too. Every type of society like that will always fail eventually, usually after killing a ridiculous number of people. I’ve lived in very socialist and very capitalist countries and been previously communist ones numerous times so I’ve experienced the different forms of governance first hand and heard stories from people who survived communism. I’m not even saying this to try to attack you or argue with you but more to try to just get you to evaluate the other side, because we really don’t need more countries to turn into Venezuela where people are beating each other over a bag of onions. The path to that can start with just a few people too. That said, the chart does have some errors. I agree with you about present glimmy. I think they want to go for a more gradual transition for her though. シ
Actually, as a fun fact, Starlight’s town had no form of communism other then the made up form of it that the Nazis made up to blame the Jews for trying to strip away their german heritage in the name of equality.
There is an obvious class system (the literal point of communism is to do away with thos), there are no shared means of production (or any means of production that we ever see) and is pretty thoroughly a cult.
And that is really an interesting thing to do research for, since all cults function in a fundamentally similar way, so this is less of an ideological thing (especially since we know her motives) and more her building a cult because she was sore from losing one friend she could have easily kept in touch with via the mail system over a decade ago.
As far as the present day Starlight Shimmer, she hasn’t really changed a whole lot, she still resorts to magically brainwashing people so that she can get things her way if they are being difficult.
