This was meant to be a vent art, not a jumping off point…unless you want to take it to the politics general thread in the forums…I have no problem debating this with you THERE.
@SonGokuMonkey
Still you shoudve seen this coming. It’s politics. Politics+ public website= equals arguments 99.99% of the time whether it’s a joe, of not sadly
@Mike
Unfortunately arguments about politics are inevitable, you can’t really expect them to take it to a forum. I mean do people arguing in the real world ever take it outside
@SonGokuMonkey
Before you lock them may I ask why you think of cops as extortionists. If it weren’t for the speed limit driving. Would be nothing but crashing. Order is essential for a system where we’re driving something with enough power to smash through a couple brick walls. And we need a way to enforce the limit
Because of the political trolls I’ve gotten lately, I’ve requested that the comments on this thread be locked. If you want to debate the merit of traffic laws with me further, take it to the politics general thread. Thank you.
@SonGokuMonkey
Maybe where you come from (where exactly do you live?), but that’s clearly not the case across the entire globe (comparing cops to Nazis is still extreme regardless). So stop trying to insist the view you have expressed in this post must always be correct.
@Brony_Conundrum @SonGokuMonkey
Can we please just let this drop before someone gets banned again? The mods have already made it crystal clear they do not want this discussion to go on any longer.
@Brony_Conundrum
I’m just saying your job doesn’t excuse you from being a psycho.
Also, traffic cops and Nazis are pretty much the same where I’m from. I don’t know how they are in your area.
We shouldn’t be going forward too much about this, but “I’m just doing my job/following orders” is not a defense for “give me money or I’ll put you in a cage.” Hate to invoke Godwin’s Law, but did that work for the Nazis in the Nuremberg Trials?
@Background Pony #A595
Although I agree completely with what you said, I’d recommend you just let the issue drop. According to the mods, this debate has gone on long enough.
First off, not all vehicles are designed to maintain adequate stability at high speeds, especially with inclement weather conditions. It is much, much more dangerous to go 80 in an old, rinky-dink 2WD pickup than it is to do the same thing in an AWD sedan with Brembos, traction control and good suspension.
Secondly, most of the danger from speeding comes from the speed differential between the moving vehicle and the traffic around it. If you’re going 20 MPH under the speed limit, that’s just as dangerous as going 20 MPH over, because the difference in speed between you and the other cars is still 20 MPH, and if there’s a collision, it’s going to expend 20 MPH worth of energy x the weight of the car.
Third, moving at a higher rate of speed makes impacts with stationary objects a whole lot deadlier. A 100 MPH impact into a concrete pillar is enough to literally open up your head and eject your brain from your skull. Remember what happened to Nikki Catsouras?
