well that all depends. Just because it is an MLP:FIM movie does not automatically make it good, take Rainbow Rocks for instance, it had all kinds of bad signs about it and turned out good. unlike the first one.

The thought if it was EQG that prevented us from getting a real G4 movie, instead of that brand-transforming knock-off crap that EQG is, for so long is plagueing me as well. I guess that is something I will finally be able to put to rest once I sit in the cinema chair and see the magic of it happen.  
Especially considered that this movie is getting all the big attention, worldwide release and a cast of stars and famous producers to make it the absolute best it can be, all of which are treats EQG never got.  
At least, despite all that delay with a real movie, Hasbro knows where the priorities lie and where the really big money should go into.  
That gives me satisfaction and glee, seeing how much this movie overshadows the EQG movies in every way possible.

there’s still one thing about the movie I will say, Equestria Girls was a movie, the First g4 featured movie. I will not forget that squandered opportunity, especially when it could’ve easily been as successful if it were just a direct to DVD product and been aired as a special feature length movie on Hasbro’s own tv channel, then used the opportunity for a movie theater release to be more widely appealing to a massive audience, including fans.
 
why even bring Equestria Girls, for the movie theater, especially as the first ever movie theater release for G4?  
what kind of sense does that make, did Carebears release their movies about a spin off with Carebears as pre-teen Humans from another dimension? even their movies were literally about the Damn Carebears! and lots of people outside of the Carebears saw it, because they got curious when they heard they were making a damn movie! AND THEY HAD THE EVIL BOOK! AND PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!! AND THEN YOU HAD NICHOLAS GOING FUCKING CRAZY IN IT!
 

 
Just really think about this hard…. the Carebears movie, kicks Equestria Girls one’s ass royally. One does not easily say or can think of something so positive about a Carebears product.

I can’t speak for many other movies, or shows, but realistically speaking, failed expectations after reading certain things into synopses that were never said by those in the first place, were very often reasons for bronies to hate on certain episodes of the show.  
At least with you, I can already see the same happening for the movie.

The synopsis states plainly the Mane Six go on an adventure to save their home and there will be challenges for them along the way. This is what the movie advertises to you. That’s what it says on the menu.
 
It does not say anything about to what extent they partake in the events, what they do exactly and how much they will be part of the problem’s solution, not that they give the villain the final blow or that they will have xx amount of screentime. Those are things that it does NOT advertise.  
It only advertises that the Mane Six go on an adventure to save Equestria (and even that, I admit that, is ME reading into it, the synopsis only speaks of a threat for “Ponyville”, not whole Equestria, make of that what you want) and it advertises NOTHING ELSE than that.  
Anything else than this plain thing the synopsis talks about is YOU reading into it and making up stuff and expectations about what is going to happen, but none of these things are advertised to you.  
All that is advertised and therefore, promised, to you is that the “Mane Six go on a journey beyond Equestria to save their home” and that is exactly what you are going to get. The movie will keep this promise it gave you.  
However, it not necessarily will keep the “promise” of anything else involving the Mane Six that maybe goes through your hyped-up mind now, because no matter what you think right now, the movie did not promise anything of that in the first place in its synopsis.
 
So, if you go with those expectations into the movie now, whatever they may be exactly, and the movie isn’t following your personal dream about what’s going on and you end up blaming the movie for not meeting standards you set for it in your head, but that it never promised to have, then yes, being disappointed of the movie is your fault then, for reading things into the synopsis that weren’t there in it in the first place.  
You can’t put your own wishes for what you want to happen over what the synopsis says is going to happen, then claiming it to be a “bad movie” because it didn’t fulfill the things it never promised to you to begin with.  
Again, you are reading into this, and you can’t blame the movie for that.

And reading into things really seems to be your forte. I never said that it won’t be about them. I never said that they will have fifteen minutes of screentime to kick off the movie, then be shoved to the side for other characters taking the spotlight and only appear in cameos anymore after that. That is something you read into my comment.  
What I ACTUALLY said, is that their role in the movie will be together with other important, new characters and that their role in the movie is, most likely, not bigger or more important than the roles of the new characters, but rather equally important to their roles, in the big picture. They will be a team and everypony will do the part it can do to solve the crisis, whatever part that maybe and whatever extent that part will have.  
I’m not even saying you should lower your expectations for this movie, but that you should broaden them and realize that there are more ways for how this movie can be than what you imagine right now.  
Again, I’m not in a better position than you when it’s about theorizing about the events transpiring, but just going by the synopsis of the movie, I still think this is what is going to happen:
 

 
Of course I could be completely wrong with that. Maybe I am, and the Mane Six do have some means to fight the Storm King themselves, but realize they need other ponies, allies, to help in order to be able to use those ressources effectively, so they seek out another kingdom and then, when eventually getting granted this help, use the big cannon together with those that will help them and all of them, Mane Six and new characters alike, will blow the Storm King to pieces.  
Maybe you will get your big and epic “Mane Six defeat their biggest enemy, with some little help by some of that few other ponies over there” adventure. That’s all possible as well.  
But what I’m saying, is, that this is not necessarily the case, because the synopsis never promised that to you.
 
Again, “The Mane Six go on an adventure to save their home”, that is the kind of steak you got advertised and promised on the menu. How this steak is spiced is something the menu didn’t tell you, so you go in blind about the exact taste and have to be prepared for everything, and if the taste isn’t as you expected it to be after seeing it on the menu, you can’t blame the menu for not telling you “No, it doesn’t have the taste you imagine”.  
You can only blame yourself for expecting that one, specific taste and nothing else, then.

I think the visuals are the thing I look forward to the most. If it ends up just looking like slightly better version of the show that’s probably the one thing that will legit disappoint me about the movie.

My vote is– as it has been since Season 4– Grogar as a season premiere villain who’s a constant background menace throughout the season until being defeated in the finale.

Yeah, man, this movie is going to look freaking fabulous. That ToonBoom is apparently way better than Flash animation, so I can’t even imagine the quality of the movie!

True. She had slipped my mind somehow, even though I’ve seen all of G1. So, we have Applejack, Spike, a zebra character, Tirek, Scorpan, The Smooze, The Storm King and seaponies, and an anthropomorphic feline character. What’s the next thing to come back from G1?

Comparisons have already been made to Cat from Red Dwarf, but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this was Treasure Planet; Capper could have fallen out of the rigging of the RLS Legacy and nobody would have batted an eye.

Honestly, I see this dude, and the first thing that comes to mind is “Space Cat” he looks like he belongs more in Star Fox than MLP. Did Miyamoto slip his way into the character design team for the MLP movie at some point. He’s said he wanted to get into movies for a while now.

My criticisms for what could happen are not simply arbitrary. I’ve seen plenty of movies before, I’ve seen many of the same mistakes made over and over, and I don’t want them to be made again with this one. I’m seeing signs, I’m making predictions, I never once said I knew exactly what was going to happen, so you can go ahead and stop trying to straw man my concerns over the possible outcome of end product.

It is when your “criticisms” are completely basis, “the movies fault” of what using characters you specifically don’t like for arbitrary reasons whom you know nothing about? Your judging before you’ve even seen it. I honestly don’t have the highest of hopes for this movie but I’m going to at least wait till I’ve seen it. Otherwise I’d like to get a look at that magic crystal ball you’re obviously hiding to see the movie before it’s even aired.
