Source? Plenty of animated movies/shows for cthie wholdren family had character deaths, not just in anime, in western animation as well.
 
I never get were this weird thought comes from, that there can't be death in it "because it's My Little Pony".
 
I guess that is a symptom of some people still being stuck in the older generations.
