I think it’s more that AJ is comfortable around soil and dirt, due to her life style, and that Rarity’s bath water would taste terrible due to the beauty products that wash off her and into the water itself. It could also be TJ trying to make creative similes for fun and to not be cliché.
Pretty much what that guy said, it’s way too specific a comparison to be an entirely innocent coincidence.
And the joke wasn’t so much that they were “together” then it was Applejack is a creepy stalker who snuck into rarity’s home and stole her bathwater.

True, though just about everyone is going straight to assuming Rarity/Applejack, so the joke is weaken when the results are predictable.
Saying something tastes like shit is figurative.
Comparing it to Rarity’s bathwater is suspiciously specific.
Which was the joke.
How do we know what syay taste like? We don’t need to taste the substance to compare it.
