An American Tail and Laputa: Castle in the Sky, both of which came out in 1986, were far superior to the animation here.
Yet One More Idiot

World's biggest idiot xD
It’s pretty good animation for its day, but I’d say is beaten out by the original two specials both in quality of animated motion, and in quality of art style of the characters.

It’s actually not fluid, you can see jerky movements in it like with certain 80’s anime at the time (like Saint Seiya, this was by Toei Animation, same company that did it, and it’s not their best work in this film and pales compared to Seiya), and the animation even has inconsistencies in its frame rates, random ones at different times. At least the art is nice.

Also, while I do like this movie, the animation does also pales greatly compared to films such as An American Tail, which came out the same year also.

Fluid? This is stiff and mechanical. And that’s not an opinion, the in-between drawings are evenly spaced, and there is no arc to any of the motion.
