No offense, but I think you guys are just projecting your own biases into the comic, and looking too deeply into it.


 
Still, I will admit many were disapointed that the whole "parallel world/characters" plot was wasted, but for all we know, they might've been planning to use more of that later. That might've been more-so what the joke was hinting at, rather then "OMG tis comci sux an' we don't care!"
 
Self-deprecation is nothing new in cartoons, just because they make a meta joke like that doesn't mean it's something with a deeper meaning, or that the people making the comics think it's a "bad" story. You're taking it too plitersonal.
