But what if I don’t have a cutie mark yet? Or I have no idea what it means?  
I think a lot of people simply don’t know who they are and what they want. Because that is what one should orient while choosing a mate, right? A lot of people are like flowers that take a long time to bloom, if ever, and by that time, it’s too little, too late, for time takes it’s toll and the pool of probable candidates is diminishing. That is, if we are talking about romantic partnership.

I get the impression I’ve got way too many specifics, but things I really don’t want to / can’t go without.
 
Same religion (we’re down to ~15 million of 7 billion), likes/into science, space, and ponies. Also willing to try things.
 
I guess there’s got to be some, at least. Fortunately, I think perhaps those last few traits tend to aggregate.
 
Failure seems to be a self-driving cycle, though. First few times, it’s new so you’re unconfident and thus awkward, so she says she’s not “feeling the chemistry”, which makes you feel less confident and makes it even more awkward. Honestly I kind of just want to screw dating and just study and/or hang out or something. There’s method to this madness.

What do you think Princess Celestia would say if you wrote her that in a letter? Or Princess Twilight? Or if you had a dream about that and Princess Luna stepped out of the moon and stood there, not saying anything and just staring at you waiting for you to find your own answer?
 
Your destiny is your’s. Go grab it and live it. If someone else can’t be in a long distance relationship, then that’s their call - and you can’t be in that relationship with them. But there are billions of people on the planet, and that one person isn’t all of them.
 
People die, every day. They move away or change their minds or fall in love with someone else.
 
One solution is to make a new friend every day - then you’ll always know there is a new friend you haven’t met yet.
 
Go find the relationship that you want to be in, one that works for both of you, and be happy. And when that person dies, or they find something else they want to do, go find a new friend. And a new friend. And a new friend.
 
Someday you will be the one who dies.
 
But until then, make friends, and find love. Find your destiny and live it.

I personally think that finding a spouse with the same interests as yourself (although not necessarily the same opinions) is a good way to find a friend to live with forever.
 
I hope you find someone who is as interested in what you are interested in as you are in what they are interested in.
 
And, there are lots of people who like My Little Pony - in all its incarnations - and sites devoted to them. If you are here because you enjoy the show or the site, then you surely can find someone else who feels the same way.
