Funny you should mention that, because one of my headcanons is that Ra the Sun God from ancient Egyptian mythology was actually Princess Celestia. Well, more like those are two of her many names throughout history. She is one of a pantheon of transdimensional beings responsible for the creation of our universe that humans and ponies turned into gods, who send out fragments of their essences to various inhabited planets to watch over them. She is so ancient that time itself has forgotten her original name.
