Notice that price doesn’t include the monitor or the mouse. That was in ‘89. That’s the equivalent of $16,542 today. Cell phones of 10 years ago were still a hundred times more powerful than that system. I remember when the first sub-$1000 OEM systems hit the market, and people including many professionals, wondered if they were actually any good.

I didn’t even know the internet existed until 2003. Granted, I was seven, so maybe that factors into it.
 
Most people don’t realize the internet is far older than they think. ARPAnet, the predecessor to the internet and what eventually became it, started in 1969.
