Actually, it was mentioned, but it was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. After Flash Sentry's one interaction with SciTwi in **__Legend of Everfree__**, Sunset explained to the latter that the former had a thing for her Equestrian counterpart. Seeing as SciTwi didn't react with any sort of of surprise, it's clear that she's been well aware for some time that she wasn't the first 'Twilight Sparkle' to attend Canterlot High. Therefore, the meeting of the Twilights _*did_* happen. Watch the movie again if you don't believe me.
 
**Edit:** Ah, here we go: The stinger from **__Friendship Games__** concerning the meeting of the Twilights was resolved in an MLP book named "Twilight's Sparkly Sleepover Surprise".
