Think for a moment about Spud guns. Spud guns; we have them. Well we don’t have them, the army has them. The army has all the spud guns.  
The fact that we have spud gun means some point some pony said to herself: “Gee I sure would like to hit those ponies with spuds. I’m just not close enough to get the job done. If only I had something that would shoot the spuds over there.”
 
Well it might have ended there, but she has mentioned it to her friend. Her friend who was good with tools.
 
About a mother later she comes back: “Hey quite a concept!” THOOM!
 
Then of course princess Celestia heard about it and wanted to buy a few: “We have some people we’d like to shoot spuds at. Give us four hundred thousand please.”
