You should read the comic, though. The son isn’t a blank slate, he’s actually a plot device (though you can probably work with it and do your own thing, best to include it).

Not sure if Rice is capable of shipping two ponies. When she made Iron Will/Fluttershy comic, she sunk IronShy by giving Iron Will an offscreen wife and a son. She might give Soarin a girlfriend or wife off screen and kill off SoarinDash, too.
