I played it briefly in the store. The levels were a li'l bland, but it wasn't too bad. Interestingly, it's the first game in the Yoshi series that lets you actually fight Kamek, the series' main villain. (Besides Bowser/Baby Bowser.)
"Yoshi's Island DS" wasn't bad either, though the level music kinda got old fast.
Yoshi's Story actually used to get alot of hate when it first came out for being very cutesy/kiddy, short/easy, and a 2D game on a 3D console. (Back when 3D was "new" that was a huge issue, as most gamers were moving on from 2D games, or bashing them, as 3D was the big deal at the time. Some used to give me crap for still liking NES & SNES games.) Though, now that those who played it when they were kids are now older, and thanks to the popularity boom for 2D style games, and retro games, the game has become quite well liked for being an early "2 1/2 D" style game.
Similarly, the first Paper Mario for N64 went through a similar fan-backlash drama for not being fully 3D or "Super Mario RPG 2." (Which was ironically it's pre-release/early-development title.)
More to love
