This is a common trope used in countless cartoons nad anime to create a shipping tease. It didn’t suddenly change it purpose just becuase your favourite show did that too.

I’m pretty sure a DHX employee who isn’t even a direct director for the episode but a supervisor of the directors has less to say about shippings and anything related to story than story writers, story editors and main storyteller writing directly for Hasbro. His job is to direct the script from a paper piece to 22 minute episode while addings some bg elements and references. I’m sure he can only say his own opinion on his twitter account. I htink he even said many times that none of his comments on twitter can be considered canon.

If you’re doing it right, romantically involved is a subset of friends, so what he said is true regardless.

That was never a reason not to ship, anyway. The show is also not called “Pregnancy is Magic” yet we had two episodes about babies being born. Show is no called “Weddings are Magic” yet we had two weddings.

This is nothing new. The show staff has denied just about every ship out there. Makes since. After all, it’s called Friendship is Magic not Romance is Magic.

Also since when Jim Miller is some sort of specialist on what is canon? He’s as much creating the relationships and story arcs as DHX janitor. If you want confirmation then ask Mike Vogel or Meghan McCarthy or writers who wrote the episodes.
