The awards were for best animated song of 2011, awards for things aren’t given until the year after it is released.
 
So in June 2013, this and any songs originally aired in 2012 regardless of season will be up for potential nomination.

Whenever I see it in media it’s always “could care less” but every memory I have of it in real life is “couldn’t care less.” Maybe the “could care less” is meant to be a sort of condescending thing. “eh, I could care less, I suppose…”

This song wasn’t nominated, only Find A Pet and Becoming Popular. The Emmys were for the best song of 2011, and those episodes premiered in 2011 unlike A Canterlot Wedding which premiered in 2012.

would have made more sense, indeed, if the line would have been, “Could not care less about the dress.” The syllable count works well enough too, if you allow for a little… creative use of the English language.
