Oh believe me, I don’t doubt her popularity. I know people personally who are fanatic Sunset fans, and yet I just don’t understand why. She isn’t a very interesting or deep character, and yet people are crazy for her. I’ve seen the movies, excluding LoE, and I still can’t see what people love about her.

Not joking with Sunset. She’s the reason so many tolerate EqG’s sheninigans, because they are so invested in her character. I honestly think you underestimate just how absurdly popular Shimmer is.

I hope you know that sarcasm doesn’t translate to text, right? I’ve dealt with too many people who genuinely have no other reason to like EqG other than “dem girls are sexxy” that I can’t tell when some are being facetious or not. Because trust me, it can get frustrating when I am trying to have a reasonable conversation with people over EqG and they just have nothing better to say than useless gibberish because they have no interest in hearing legitimate criticism.
 
I get that a lot of the fandom likes the franchise for reasons I simply cannot fathom, but too often they ignore or refuse to take any form of criticism seriously and it just makes me dislike it even more.

I wasn’t saying they all looked identical, I just said they all wear skirts which is dumb. Yeah they don’t all wear the same thing, but they still all wear skirts. I don’t like that design choice. I have my nitpicks about each of their respective outfits, but the big thing that struck me was the skirt choice. It’s just really dumb and lazy.

I disagree about the standard outfits thing. They have a similar template, but they’re only identical if you simplify it down to just a shirt and skirt.

I honestly don’t care. I don’t watch EqG for wank material, if I wanted that I could just search around here for that, at least then I get better art quality from talented people each with their own unique take. All the females in EqG look the same aside from skin colour and hair variation, so none of them have an appeal because they are all just clones. Humans don’t all look identical, we all have a uniqueness to our physiology. With ponies/horses it makes sense they all look the same because ponies and horses all look the same, they don’t have the kind of differences in appearance like people do.

I haven’t seen LoE yet, I’m waiting to meet up with a buddy of mine so we can experience it together. My grievances with EqG’s character design overall however has been since they were first introduced years ago. I understand body types all matching, that’s just ot save on time and money so they can copy past female character models and then adjust them as needed. Animation wise, I get it.
 
Their outfits however? I’ve never liked them. The fact the every girl wears a skirt is just lazy IMO and goes against the idea of each of them having any semblance of uniqueness to them. Not only that, but the colour choices clashed on a few of their clothes and just never looked right to me. Again, I’m not a fashion expert nor am I an artist so I don’t have a lot of knowledge in what makes for “good” clothing asthetics but even just looking at the choices they made never sat well with me.
 
As far as their looks in LoE go, from the screenshots and random gifs I see here, they just look like they wear standard camp clothing, t-shirts and shorts and the like. That at least makes sense. I’ll have to see the movie before I can really say how I feel about them, but the other movies, no. I’ve always had some issue with character designs. THe only ones I can say didn’t rub me the wrong way were the Dazzlings and Twilight’s prep school uniform. Those are unique and have personallity to them, they stand out and add to the looks of the respective characters, they don’t have clashing colours. I don’t have issues with them.

I personally preferred the crystal wings on the box art than in the movie. The wings didn’t look too majestic, not only in size but the way they were made to look like knives or shards just turned me off. I know they had to keep the designs simple but they could have at least added more details and made them a fuller size.

Not really, they look silly. I don’t understand why they went the direction they did, all it does is make me dislike the character design choices even more than I already do.

But again, they don’t make sense. Twilight’s looks like she has a bun of her hair attached to the side of her head, and not in a Princess Leia way. It looks like she took a bunch of her hair off, curled it in a bun and then taped it to the side of her head.
 
Rainbow once again has the issue of hair that grows just to justify a new hairstyle. If you undid her bun and ponytail her hair would go passed her waist. Her hair isn’t that long! That massive bun of hair looks so dumb, they should have erased that and her hair would be much better.
