Who would be the next story editor if Haber don’t work in the next season?
My bet for Jim Miller or Ishi
My bet for Jim Miller or Ishi
I honestly like “Hooffields & McColts” a fair bit. One of my favourite episodes by them, but I think they have a tendency to fall down on formula. I don’t like “Castle Sweet Castle” or “Equestria Girls: Friendship Games” very much, and “Gauntlet of Fire” has always felt deeply unexceptional to me.
I’m not the biggest fan of the Hoofields and the McColts, but it’s more down to the content of the episode and the setting, rather than the way it was written. Besides that, I definitely agree about the range of quality in the episodes they’ve written that you mention.
I also feel that Lewis and Songco are underrated; even their misfire, “The Hooffields and McColts”, turned out about as well as could be expected given the hackneyed setup, which may or may not have been their idea to begin with. All of their other episodes have been in the very good to excellent range, IMHO.
And yes, I’d only consider one or two episodes to be ‘bad’, and they were mostly just bland.

Do you like it? If you do, then I apologise, but that’s just my personal least favourite :P If you dislike like I do, then great! xD
>Equestria Games
There’s plenty of episodes I love from season 6 - so far, I’d say just as many as season 4 - but this is the first season where I have not really hated a single episode.
To me, “consistency” is what season 5 lacked. By the time it ended, I think I only enjoyed just over half of its episodes, and despite many great moments, less than half of S5’s episodes are ones I’d ever want to return to.
I had quite a few other issues with the season, but it’s that lack of consistency which makes it, quite frankly, my least favourite overall.
I think you’re right there actually. I find Season 6 just to be “okay” and a lot of the episodes are just that. However as you say that can be a good thing as they are still watchable. I think apart from the opener and Cart Before Ponies, there wasn’t an episode where I went “Oh god I hated that” and refuse to watch it again.
In the inverted version, and this is a controversial opinion, I think 4 is the worst for it. Whilst there are some fantastic episodes that I loved (The opener and finale, Flight to the Finish, Pinkie Pride, It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies, and Maud Pie to name a few) there are god awful episodes in that season I hated (Equestira Games, Inspiration Manifestation, Somepony to watch over me, and especially Rainbow Falls). You could agrue 3 is worse for it, but I don’t think the short length helps.
@EddersCPFC
In actuality, despite it’s mediocrity in the fandom I think season 6 has the best episode consistency since season 1. Seasons 2 through 5 had some fantastic episodes, but then there were some episodes I can’t stand. Season 6 however just kept a moderate pace throughout it’s episodes. The best episodes weren’t the best and the worst episodes aren’t nearly as bad as the other bad episodes in the series.
Like even though I consider Applejack’s “Day” Off and The Cart Before the Ponies to be the worst of season 6, I can still watch them and not feel the same hatred towards them like Princess Spike, Rainbow Falls, Too Many Pinkie Pies, and Baby Cakes.
I also wonder if Cindy Morrow still works for the show.
Edited because: something on topic
They’re quite underrated. They also wrote Rarity Investigates, Castle Sweet Castle (might me just me who loves that episode though :P), Gaunlet of Fire and Top Bolt. I honestly wouldn’t mind if it were them two.
@rdibp
Agreed, I actually think 5 is the second best season after 2.
Same, I’d even call it my favorite, it did a lot of things right if you ask me.
That or Vogel, since he helped on the finale with Haber.
@Thrond
tbh, I place season 5 up there along with season 2. It’s that good. :3
Seems that way sometimes. Honestly, I preferred season 6 significantly to season 5, which isn’t saying a lot because I didn’t like season 5 much, but still.
Oh, well whatever position Meghan had. I don’t remember.
I think you mean story editor? But yeah, I feel the same way.
Yeah, season 5 was miles better.
Exactly how I feel. I didn’t mind Haber, but I won’t miss him either.
yeah now the fandom must find someone else to pester and hate.
Don’t worry, by the time of the end of the next season the fandom consensus will be that he was a good writer and showrunner, and the show significantly declined after he left.
@thatguy
Yeah, I’m willing to go with that too.
