But I would agree that Discord was mostly there for Fluttershy. :p

well technically they aren’t there to rescue just the princesses lol well Discord is there to save Fluttershy

Discord’s actions, had he not been stopped and reformed, would have led to a ZK-0 Class Reality Failure: the universe would still exist, just not under the pony laws.
 
 
Trixie’s actions, had she not been stopped, would have more than likely led to an IK-class Global Civilization Collapse or CK-Class Restructuring (It doesn’t end the world outright, but the world is so different that it might as well be gone.)

actually i do agree with the sentiment, if someone is truly sorry for what they did, they should without any punishment be forgiven. However such a thing only works in fiction, because in reallife you will never be sure if a person is really sorry or is lying/sorry for being caught. However if it were possible, i would say even the most heinous crimes should be immediately be forgiven

I think somewhere between seasons 1,2 and 3 the brony community was pushing pretty hard for the show to feature redemption and forgiveness too…

Yeah. They push on that reform concept and pacifism so hard. As if crimes should all be forgiven without punishment or the slightest compensation.

I’m pretty sure that she needed to remove it on her free will, which she did. It’s OK to like a character, but you need to be able to admit that they’re flawed and can get high on power.

It’s really the amulet that should be considered the villain in that case. It’s tantamount to being mind-controlled by another living being, the only difference being that the AA wasn’t alive… as far as we know. It was made perfectly clear that her actions while wearing it weren’t her own.
 
Now what she intended to do with it isn’t elaborated on. Her motives may have been to simply show up Twilight. When she removed it she didn’t show any signs that she was truly malicious against anypony or wished to cause any true harm.
