Honestly I found these ponies being genuinely interested in her leadership again,  
more shocking than the earlier nightmare sequence of them rejecting her friendship and laughing at her.
 
I don’t think this is quite the same as ‘stockholm syndrome’,  
since it’s clear to Our Town ponies that Starlight has changed for the better.
 
But it does go to show just how desperately creatures that interact in social groups,  
crave not just a leader to listen to,  
but familiarity.

I don’t think they were trying to put her in charge again. I think they were just trying to show her how much they still care for her and trust her by trying to include her in everything.

Given that these ponies were willing to give up their marks, at one time really trusted Starlight to make all their choices for them {some of them for possibly years}, and ironically came out stronger after they got their cutie marks, not to mention that Starlight came back to them and apologized, it’s kind of easy to see why they would want her to be in charge again. It’s partially because they were used to it since they did it for so long willingly in most cases and partially because they do have respect for her. Perhaps misplaced respect, but respect none the less.

I love that Trixie is genuinely concerned for Starlight here.

Everyone loves her unconditionally, we get it. Except for herself, only she remembers and she’s still miserable over it for some reason.
 
Now feel sad for her.

Kind of odd that they’re so willing to put her in charge just like that, considering it was pretty clear they haven’t been in touch with her since the montage and they couldn’t have any idea what she’s been doing since then.
