In this story, AJ is dealing with the emotional aftermath of Trixie’s domination of Ponyville using the Alicorn Amulet, during which Trixie removed Pinkie’s mouth and, upon AJ’s inability to fulfill her increasingly insane requests, AJ’s legs as a temporary punishment.
A bilateral hip disarticulation such as this leaves hollows where one’s hips had been, leading to this rather oddly shaped plot.

Bucky and Kicks are on strike due to harsh working conditions during applebucking season. They demand fair wages and more reasonable hours.
We’ll see if AJ can “pony up” or if she has to go back to ramming trees with her head.
