I am treating GoH as an alternate/side timeline to anything show-based or existing IDW basis.

They are based in show cannon. So it could be expanding (in a non-canon way) what happened (or will happen) in the season finale. They were delayed after all.
Very unlikely this has anything do do in show canon
Also season 6 finale spoiler.
Especially after three years.
…I say three because of Sombra being the exception.
EDIT: Then again, considering he wasn’t really dead, then yes, 6 years is too long for any hero/heroine.
