Well yeah I can fully understand what are you saying.  
But is SciTwi truly not that into Sunset?
 
Again, SciTwi likes Timber, due to him being, similar to her, but that’s mostly him being smart. Sunset seems even smarter, and has numerous other similarities to SciTwi(ie. both were socially awkward(yes Sunset was, she said she knew nothing of friendship), were outcasts at time(Sunset in Rainbow Rocks), both were selfish in the past(although SciTwi somewhat, rather innocently so, and justified in that in Crystal Prep, people in general were very selfish, so she didn’t have good influence), both became she demons, and were traumatized by it etc). A bit of a spoiler, but in the novel version of Legend of Everfree at least, it’s even pointed out in the movie they can understand each other perfectly, because of their similarities.(Although it’s interesting, that despite their very strong similarities, SciTwi and Sunset are still also quite different in other ways…)
 
More spoilery, || when SciTwi wants to leave the camp, as she thinks she’s a danger to everyone, she delibatery avoided Sunset. Why? As Spike explained, only Sunset could make SciTwi stay. Not Timber XD  
Sunset being in danger, along with Sunset’s support, also was the primary factor why SciTwi accepted her powers, and found strength to defeat Midnight within her.||
 
So yeah, it comes of a bit as if for SciTwi, Timber was a heterosexual, non-magical substitute for Sunset XD  
The non-magical factor, is important, as SciTwi was outright terrified of magic, after the events of Friendship Games, and Sunset, while respecting SciTwi’s feelings(ie didn’t tell any of the other girls about SciTwi’s powers, as it would be unpleasant for SciTwi), also didn’t want SciTwi to lock away such a part of herself(locking up parts of yourself out, is incredibly unhealthy).
 
Also, SciTwi’s songs can be also seen as her not only struggling with accepting her magic, but also her gayness(bisexuality?) XD, and accepting both in the end.
 
The above is not really canon(or is it? XD), but I’m going with the theme of the discussion XD

Man, I don’t know if you have personal experience in this, but it is SUPER weird when your friends want to bone you and you’re not that into them.

Man, this movie is gonna make it even harder to prefer Sunset/Pony Twi than it already is.

The first part of the songs is how Sunset subverts her darkness, and helps Twilight to subvert her own, and even the last part, is more about Sunset and Twilight.
 
SciTwi just forgot about her problems around Timber, rather than face him, but in the end, Timber contributed saddly nothing for SciTwi to solve her problems. (In fact Timber only noticed Twilight feels bad, when she essentially at the point of a breakdown, and her worst moment, and he quickly forgot about it :( )
 
Sunset on the other, imidatelly noticed something was wrong with SciTwi, all time helped her to deal with it, and accept herself, and did like 80-90% of the job to help Twilight get over her problems, the rest of the Humane 7 done the rest of 10%-20%.
 
So it’s SciTwi taking Sunset’s hand(and accepting herself), not that of Timber XD
 
To be clear, I even like Timber, but his relationship with SciTwi, is completelly eclipsed by that of Sunset and SciTwi(even, or especially in this movie), and looks TimberTwi, comes of like a rather weak bond in comparison to bond between SciTwi and Sunset…

Even her song “Embrace the Magic” is pretty gay. If you think about it a little bit, it’s actually a song about embracing your gayness.

Probably Sunset for Twilight. No seriously, when Flash tries to restart the relationship with Sunset, Sunset only has Twilight and Twilight’s safety on her head, and doesn’t even notice Flash’ attempts(poor Flash…).
 
It’s also visible that most of Sunset’s story, revolves around her trying to help out Twilight or care for SciTwi’s safety. Sunset also iinvestigates, partly out of curiosity the Gaea Everfree sitauation, but it’s also partly motivated by Twilight’s safety, especially latter on….
