The triggers being internal would be a good way to keep earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns unfamiliar with the weapon from quickly using it against you.

Very cool vector, but how is she firing the guns without a trigger to pull? Guess it’s magic.

Yeah the Chinese AR is the one based an an AN 94.

Yeah When I finally got around to playing 3 I picked up the Infiltrator and immediately realised “Oh this is the Zebra rifle.”
 
Same with Moira being Derpy. I got this huge grin on my face as I squealed “Ohmigod it’s her!”

It’s a thing you learn And in a world devoid of textbooks learning is not easy. Alicorns use it with ease but even Blackjack, “Mary Sue” as she is could barely manage a magic bullet at first.
 
Besides, warfare is about being on the same level as your enemy, and the Zebras, who couldn’t fire beams from their horns, got real creative.

more human weapons in a world with magic… Whats the point of guns when you can fire beams from your horn?

I always pictured it as being based on the Type 93 Chinese Assault Rifle from Fallout 3, since it’s a zebra gun and all, and that was basically an AK clone. However the Zebra Rifle mod for Fallout 3 renders it as a recolored R91 Assault Rifle, what this pic is using, and I can roll with either one honestly.

It’s been so long I can’t remember what I headcanon’d the zebra rifle as, but I’m sure it wasn’t this.
 
*Oh yeah, something in the AK series. First I thought it was a Dragunov but then I read that is was burst fire and I leant more towards an AN 94. I hadn’t played any Fallout at the time so I didn’t know the AN 94 was actually a thing in-game.
