The Sonic comics have certainly done some good stuff to Shadow’s character. Especially with this moment.
I laughed my ass off when I read the end of this issue the first time. Still do, actually.
Put him in the hands of a good writer and you can make Shadow a very fun character. He’s a great contrast to the generally fun and bouncy cast of Sonic. And he does make a good foil for Sonic himself: straight-faced and serious, but still cocky and arrogant, much like the self-proclaimed Fastest Thing Alive. The Vegata comparisons are pretty accurate.
Despite Shadow being such a controversial character, (younger Sonic fans love him, older ones loathe him) I think he isn’t that had, and makes a decent slightly serious character, in the Sonic series.
He has his amusing moments too. Especially, in the comic.
That’s true. It gave the game a bigger sense of… I don’t know, “realness” than some of the older ones. It made the stages feel much more alive, especially when there’s a battle going on. Also, chicken gun.
Exactly, he actually did stop the whole “MY PAST! MARIA! KILL EVERYTHING!” shtick and genuinely developed as a character. Honestly, that was one of the good things about Sonic 06. You can still have him be serious, but remove the angst/emo stuff. We got to see Shadow be, well, Shadow. Plus his reactions in Dark Brotherhood were amazing, especially with Sonic XD

Some of the weapons were kinda fun, I like how interactive the stages were how you could destroy pieces of them, or use things like street signs as weapons.
And yeah, it gave closure to Shadow’s “angst,” yet ironically some still complain about Shadow being “emo/angsty,” even though he hasn’t been such in over 10 years. He’s more quiet, and “straight to business” now. The games & comic also seem to get some humor from his “overly serious,” and “deadpan” attitude. So he’s not all “dark & angst” like many seem to think.
So, I’m actually glad Shadow’s personality improved a bit.
The minor swears were amusing too. “ZOMG! A SONC CHARACTER CUSSED!”
And swings it around like it’s made of plastic!
Same here. It was a disappointing game, but I still had some fun with it. I’d still easily play it over Boom(06 maybe as well, although I do have a lot of fun with the glitches sometimes :3 ). Some of the missions were a real pain though. At least it gave Shadow’s origin story arc good closure.

Yeesh, that sucks. I’d have enjoyed playing as other Sonic characters. It sucks that some of the fans have that narrow mindset too. I really like variety in video games, and Sonic’s friends can certainly give some good options for variety in gameplay when implemented right.

You know, it really did have a charm to it. Sure, the weapons system was kind of clunky, and some of the missions were infuriatingly hard (SCREW YOU MR. PRESIDENT AND YOUR STUPID ESCAPE POD!), it was a fun game. It was goofy, yes, but that only added to the charm: The way it actually complicated Shadow’s story instead of answering what actually happened, the incredbily forced “edge” (hearing “Those aliens will taste their OWN bloody hell!” will never fail to make me laugh), the sight of Shadow carrying a cannon 4 times his size…
Good times, good times.

Despite it’s flaws, I actually enjoyed it too. My only beef with it honestly was it just didn’t feel finished being made. (Though, not as unfinished as Sonic2006)
I hear they were considering giving Tails, or Knuckles their own new game (though, they already did with “Knuckles Chaotix,” & “Tails Adventure) but nixed that idea, because the Shadow game was so hated, and because critics keep going off on how only Sonic should be playable.
