Agreed, the MLP comic (plz no drama/debate, guys) also referenced some other things like Blues Brothers, Gravity Falls, Peanuts, MST3K, Pac-Man, and they once had plumber ponies that looked like the Mario Bros. (The “Mario” look-alike pony even had curly hair like the live-action Captain Lou Albano “Mario” from the old Super Mario Super Show.)

I always love it when shows put in little references to other things. To me, it’s a sign the writers are having fun when making their shows.
 
This show is a prime example. To list a few, My Little Pony referenced Metal Gear Solid, Bob Ross, The Legend of Zelda, and even G3 Ponies.

“THE Batman,” (the 2000s show) and “Arthur” also are kid shows that also referenced “South Park.”
 
Though, I guess it’s no different then how Garfield & other shows referenced Godfather, or how MLP referenced Big Labowski. (Yes, references to Rated R movies for the parents, or for when the kids get older.) “Tiny Toons” and “Rocko,” referenced “Deliverance.”
 
Heck, the ‘80s even had KID’S cartoons BASED on Rated R movies like “Police Academy,” “Robocop,” “Rambo,” and “The Toxic Avenger.” No way that would fly nowadays.

Same could be said of the old show, seeing how the ‘90s, and early-2000s decades are a bit dated now too. So some wouldn’t get that old pop-culture either.
 
PPG is one of the first cartoons I remember to reference “Legend of Zelda.”

It’s interesting to me that of the bunch, half are well-intentioned extremists and the other half are selfish bastards. More funny is that Rainbow Dash as Quicksilver is just Rainbow Dash taken to her worst logical maximum.
