Well, that’s one reason why I created an account. She needed someone who wasn’t a robot to upload for her!

I knew as soon as I saw a new comment had been made on this gif, that would be what it was.

I’ve seen some really horrible text-based captures that were literally impossible to solve.
The “click on all images of X” one is also annoying in that some images are ambiguous. “Click on all the images of rivers”, but one image looks like it could be a lake, or a really, really large river. I’ve seen those kind of images both get accepted and rejected.
After being unable to solve those puzzles, I gave up and worked on something else.
The ones before with really blurred/warped text that I had to type out in a text box were even worse. I had no chance with those.

Ugh, yeah. Any site with that one, I just live without posting on.
The problem is more and more programs were able to break those style of captchas, so people had to start getting creative. Doing things like audio, or mixing words with other words and asking for a specific one out of the set. Or identifying images. Derpibooru uses that method. But it can get a little obnoxious. I made hundreds of tag edits (legitimate, not vandalism) before I registered, and every time I’d quickly hit a captcha for every submission.
It wouldn’t be satisfied with just one however. It would quickly snowball and start demanding more. “Click on all the pictures of trees.” Then it would demand I do it again. And again. And again. Sometimes up to 10 times in a row before finally being satisfied I wasn’t a bot (and I wasn’t messing up on the images, either.)
Things which are simple for us are often hard for a computer to do. That’s why they seem to be getting “easier” over time. But even those other methods are slowly being cracked. My favorite method of captcha is a newer one few sites I’ve seen use. Mini-games. “Click all the fruits”, or “drag all the cars to the parking lot.” Quick things that only take 1-2 seconds to do, and you never have to let go of the mouse.

i miss those times strangely. if you knew the right word, you could write one of the two words, and write anything in the other. most guys joked writing the n-word in that space
