I’m an utterly passive Zelda fan and I knew this was Link right away. The green cap and cart full of rupees told me so. The Triforce CM, like others have said, would have been way too on the nose.

Exactly. It’s really quite a well-known part of canon by now. Enough so that they can have subversions, even: Lorule’s Triforce is implied to be the exact opposite. Ravio - Cowardice; Hilda - Folly; Yuga - Weakness.

Doesn’t every Zelda fan known this, though? I thought it was implied when someone says Triforce. Zelda has wisdom, and Ganondorf has power. Courage is on the right, power is on the top, and wisdom is on the left. or at least, I think that’s the parts that glow for the respective parts.

Honestly, a heart container makes just as much if not more sense for several reasons:
 
  1. Link typically only gets the Triforce once per game. In-universe, each incarnation of the character only ever encounters the triforce once or twice. The heart containers are way more common and something he interacts with more.
     
  2. There are some games where the Triforce plays a very minimal role (Phantom Hourglass, Majora’s Mask).
     
  3. Technically he’s associated with the Triforce of Courage, not the entire thing, and a single gold triangle wouldn’t make a good CM anyway.
