Though I’d love to see this model complete. I’ve been trying to figure out a pony modeling stle for my own project and I just love this look.
I did do a version with a flat eye, but I was getting quite a few people saying that it looked too unnatural; Although I’m not sure if that sort of interaction between bones and UV mapping is doable in 3DsMax.

In most programs, you can actually hook the UV texture coordinates up to a bone, which can then be controlled by the rig. This means that you can just have a few polygons in the general shape of a cartoon eye operate correctly without needing the stupid thing to be completely spherical.
