Description
Suggested in the artists group chat thread to draw Ghibli crossover art.
I had 2 ideas.
This one was the first.
I’m hoping others will do a few more, but time will tell.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Only got 2 other takers so far for the challenge.
BlazingDazzlingDusk did a ponified Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service, and MrMildock did a ponified Princess Mononoke.
Both have done pretty well.
Wow that is certainly different! If/when I get around to watching it, I might do it after watching the Disney version to see how they compare :P
Ponyo, I will warn you, is nothing like Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
A lad catches the golden fish Ponyo at the start of the film, and basically befriends her. However, when she’s on land, it messes up the balance of nature.
Strange idea from my point of view, but it’s not that hard to follow.
They all sound decent enough to watch, ones that you just mentioned that appeal specifically to me are:
Laputa - Since you say it’s a great film, I think that one’s a must watch
Ponyo - I do like Disney’s adaptation of The Little Mermaid, so I’d be intrigued to see this one.
The Cat Returns - I’m a fan of light hearted stories so this is definite.
Cheers for the recommendations. Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro is definitely my top priority though. I’ll buy a DVD/Blu-Ray of one and if I like that, I’ll buy the rest. Or at the very least see if they’re on telly.
I think Disney did release Kiki’s Delivery Service a while ago.
As for the others you mentioned:-
My Neighbour Totoro.
It’s a great family film that one. The story’s fun, worth watching.
Spirited Away.
That one’s weird. Very weird.
Beautifully animated, as are all Ghibli films, but be prepared for some crazy ideas.
I’d add a couple more worth watching there.
Laputa (Castle In The Sky).
Great story, brilliant animation, memorable characters.
Of course, that’s just my opinion.
Nausicaa.
Same production team that made Laputa, this is a very strong story with a theme on looking after the environment.
Set in a post apocalyptic world, nature has claimed most of the planet back with a jungle that is processing the toxins mankind has produced. So it’s all poisonous.
The Cat Returns.
If you’re just after a light hearted story this is great.
It got praise because the lead girl is so relatable, and well written.
Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Starts out well, but I found this one dragged a bit personally. Especially towards the end.
Ponyo.
A bit weird, but not a bad film.
It’s based on “The Little Mermaid”, although Ponyo is a fish, that’s a daughter to a sea wizard. She can change shape in to human (ish) form.
Been a while since I saw it.
Princess Mononoke.
Again, a very weird film, but not too hard to follow.
Ah. Didn’t Disney distribute Kiki’s Delivery Service (which is the one Blazing did funnily enough) in Western territories at one point?
Yeah I’ve never been one for Anime in general to be completely honest (It’s just not my cup of tea, you know?). Although I know they did My Neighbour Toroto and Spirited Away which are on my “to watch” list because I’ve heard so many good things about them. Far as my knowledge of Studio Ghibli goes though.
Edited
Ghibli are basically Japan’s answer to Disney. Daft thing is, the two companies do work together (Which is how the English dub of “The Cat Returns” has the main character voiced by Anne Hathaway, from “The Princess Diaries”).
Their films are a bit hit and miss.
Not sure which would appeal to you, but Laputa is an all time favourite of mine.
It’s only been seven days. XD You can expect more of my requested drawings.
There’s a small family of them running around the robot caretakers’ shoulders when the kids walk up to the tree in the abandoned city.
Can we expect anything new from you any time soon?
My watch list top 15 is devoid of your uploads.
No problem!
(As I said before, BlazingDazzlingDusk works in mysterious ways.)
Thanks.
(Didn’t expect you to be online at this hour. About to call it a night myself).
With Totoro.
(I know, I got an iffy line on her left front leg here).
