Probably less “a bit of a torpedo for it”, and more “doesn’t really do anything for it”, then.
They were at work. You don’t flirt while you are working, not as a professional anyway. That, and she was a newbie (which is generally seen as very inappropriate for a senior member to show favoritism to a new recruit).
And then she was acting exceptionally odd. What were you expecting him to do?

Soarin’ just seemed very stand-offish towards Rainbow Dash the entire episode.
How did this episode shoot it down? Please tell me this isn’t another “The Wonderbolts didn’t read Dash’s mind and know her nickname offended her because she pretended to not be bothered by it, therefore the Wonderbolts are assholes” argument.

Also, I really want to know how old the staff think Soarin’ is. They depict him with those lines under his eyes^^ that usually denote a middle-aged pony, but based on the way he acted in other episodes (especially The Best Night Ever), I would guess he’s only a few years older than the Mane Six at most.

^Technically, the lines also indicate when a pony is tired, but they’re consistently present on Soarin’ all the time, which you only see elsewhere on older ponies†^.
^†^Except for Celestia and Luna, but they fell into the Fountain of Youth as young adults, so they don’t count.
