He didn’t leave her, she abandoned him, by distractedly ignoring him when he went to her in an obvious attempt to be talked out of making a major life-altering decision. Go back and watch that scene again; he sure reacted to her dimissal like someone who’d just been smacked in the face by his greatest fear.
 
Again, everything he effed up in that episode was something he’d effed up at earlier or effed up within a couple of episode after.

i tried soaking my head to get rid of that episode. it didn’t work. even when i tried holy water on the recommendation of an exorcist. then i assumed that spike episodes were oil-based and thus wouldn’t wash out well with just water so i bought some of that pumice soap, you know the bright red stuff that smells so deliciously of cherries that you have to remind yourself it is nasty and sandy, but to no avail. it got my pores nice and clean though, so there’s that.
 
typically the treatment to forget a spike episode ranges from moderate psychiatric help to ilicit substance abuse. for the diamond dog episode i recall it required a forty of gin and a few hours of playing lego batman. princess spike required trepanning and a hasty trip to the hospital, and thankfully once i told them the reason why i had attempted it they changed the description of the incident from “attempted suicide” to “spike episode” and my medical coverage foot the bill. it was mostly a success, barring a nasty scar and the recurring and sudden losses of equilibrium. i still suffer flashbacks whenever i hear someone sneeze unfortunately, but i’m currently getting the help i need.
 
the irony of gauntlet of fire is that the medical industry was actually ready for this one and yet the episode was good. suicide prevention hotlines were standing by, the question “did you watch the new spike episode” was asked before allowing the purchase of guns and ammunition, and doctors stocked up on medications. that said, they have quite the surplus left over so if you’re in the market for some cheap paroxetine or prazosin i know a couple guys. just tell them “doctor kraus sent you” or “spike at your service was on and i couldn’t find the remote” and they’ll cut you a good deal.
 
also, did you know leaving a convict in a locked room with nothing but a noose and a looping copy of princess spike is used as a means of execution in thailand?

thats why equestria games is just meh… is not bad… but not good … my problem is that I was waiting a episode, and why not, even a story arc about the ponies competing in the games… not a simple spike episode… it was just disappointing

While I can sort of understand some of your defenses, I find that spike screwed up way too badly at things he was good at for your defense to work, not to mention it goes against his character to so easily leave twilight for applejack. Have you not seen the crystal empire?

Spike has had 5 good episodes and 5 bad episodes, so while that’s not a good track record, it’s not bad either.

Past season 2? His episode in season 1 was terrible, his episodes in season 4, barring for power ponies, were great, and while most of his episodes aren’t very good, he has always been a good supporting character, and that has not changed over the course of the series.

What’s wrong with secret of my excess? Do you hate M.A. Larson so much you will dislike his episodes regardless of how good they actually are? and how is Dragon Quest only mediocre? Do you not know of it’s unfortunate implications? Also, Power Ponies and Inspirations Manifestation may have had other characters play major roles, but spike was still the protagonist. Glad you like Equestria Games.

oh… okay now i see what you’re saying. yeah, five years ago i’d never have assumed we’d have to wait this long for a good spike episode either.
 
but to the patient go the spoils. on the fifth year, the lord said “let there be a good spike episode”. and it was good. CAN I GET A HALELUJAH BROTHER?!

no, no, i don’t mean an “it’s not terrible for a spike episode” episode or an “at least it’s not princess spike” episode or even an “it had it’s moments” episode.
 
it’s good. like really good. good setup, good execution, good story, good conclusion, good characters. i know it’s not saying much to say it’s the best of the season so far, but still. it is. by quite a far margin.
