Coming back to this to laugh (I knew all along it would be Trixie) and point out that EG is confirmed canon. That EG doesn’t (and will never) directly influence FiM has no bearing on the canonicity of it.
 
Sunset is never going to appear in FiM, folks. Get your head around it. Accept it. And move on. Sunset lives in the human world and has no reason to return to Equestria for more than a brief visit. Appearing in FiM as a cameo wouldn’t make sense because the cast wouldn’t ignore her, and she’s never going to get a spotlight episode because that’d require explaining. Sorry guys, Pony Sunset is exclusively for EG.

Um, no. Until we’re explicitly told it’s not-canon, it’s safe to assume it’s canon.

He has not said that they are canon. He is just being a tease. Until someone actually says “Sunset is canon in the show” then she will be considered not canon.

As much as I want this to happen, It never will. They have said time and time again that Equestria girls is not cannon and Sunset will never appear outside the movies and comics.

I think it’s fair to be somewhat optimistic but you also have to be realistic about it.  
I think my major grip with the whole fiasco is how antagonistic some people can be towards Starlight because she became a main character in her franchise. I’ve seen some overly harsh attitudes towards her from Sunset fans because apparently a character who has never made an appearance or has any reference deserved the spot of main character in FiM.

Trixie would be third “prance” =p Nevermind that she seems to have be barred from the show and comics. And a bit too early for another CMC episode for DT or SS (I can’t imagine a non-CMC episode with them).
 
IMO chances are it’s just a normal M6 episode where a character messes up too badly to just “retry” and has to learn that sometimes things happen and won’t be forgotten and everyone just has to continue on.

Not as long as her replacement scrappy is in the show. Are people honestly this desperate for a appearance of her in the show? While I can understand the potential for her in the show she’s better off in EQG. She’s the only thing keeping that series relevant.
 
Of course she could be just visiting buy I highly doubt they would condense something as important as that into a single episode.
 
It’s more likely it’s about Trixie since her book keeps getting constant rescheduled.
 
Though imo I’d rather it be about Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. We haven’t seen how they act yet after their redemptions.
 
Then chance of it being Sunset is ridiculous low.

I wish…but as TSP pointed out, it’s too big an event for a single episode; and to add to that, I’m of the opinion that they either do it right, or don’t do it at all.

Some writers and creators would like to keep things a secret, so they can surprise the fans (and I’m talking more than just MLP.) Again, as much as I want this to happen, I doubt it will. Though the possibility will remain until the show ends.
 
That’s the whole problem with a “No” answer like that, though. Because people have been faked out before (not necessarily with MLP) the only answer anyone will accept as absolute truth is a “Yes.” Even he plainly gave a “No, it’s never ever going to happen” they can go back on that easily. Change of heart or mind? Change of direction? Maybe orders from higher up? Or some other reason I can’t think of because it’s 4:30 am? Either way, the possibility exists, no matter how small.

But WHY would they lie? There’s no foretelling signs of it happening any time soon, if ever. The only way it can happen is via the movies and so far nothing has shown in the movies that it will happen. Same with the show, no mention of the character anywhere.
 
I think it was a genuine answer.

My theory is, if it doesn’t pertain to Starlight, then we’re in for the return of a Great and Powerful ego.

I just don’t see how you can come to that conclusion. Jim wasn’t asked if Sunset is canon. The question was if she could be made canon. This is in the context of the start of season 6. But whatever
