Honestly, this is the reason I dislike most SoarinDash, because for three seasons there was basically nothing about him other than that he was a Wonderbolt, male, and liked pie (and you could ship him with Applejack and it’d be just as valid). He’s started getting some more lines since Rainbow Falls, but still not to Spitfire’s extent.
Of course, I tend to peruse shipping fics over shipping pics, and in fanfiction you can flesh out a character’s personality as much as you want, and if you’re a good enough writer you can ship anypony with quite a few other ponies and still make it romantic. Personally, if I’m reading a fic and the characters and their romance are well-written, I’ll support just about any pairing. That’s how I started shipping Soarin’ and Twilight, because I read a fic that had them together so adorably that I could only go, “This is my headcanon.”
I mean, we basically built Derpy’s personality from the ground up, it’s not like lack of lines is a problem for us when we get creative. Though sadly most people prefer to complain about Flash Sentry rather than trying to do the same for him.

Soarin x Spitfire - much better, and adequate pair for canon mlp, than this styreotype fan-ship soarindash, and it’s obective fact! Just accept this fact as truth. Gold (Spitfire) and silver (Soarin) are beautiful together.

But man, I wish things could stay the same as it is right now, I’m perfectly content to see soarin and spitfire share a scene or just smile at each other, that’d be enough shipping fuel to keep soarinfire alive. Dunno if the writers will take em to the next level tho. pls do

I could see it becoming a very popular ship if Soarin and Dash simply share an adventure episode together like in the comics. Making him the support wonderbolt for Spitfire will obviosuly lead to people shipping them instead. Soarin also need at least one episode focusing on his character and past to distinguish him as a character.
