Yes, it is. And the writer has no power to stop viewers from interpreting a scene in an episode to fit their fanon if that is what they (the viewer) desire. If I interpret Pinkie Pie as having a foodplay fetish based on her “dreams about frosting” scene in Princess Twilight Sparkle, nobody can call my interpretation any less valid than that of the writers.

That’s not really proving a point. The writers chose to do that. Me wanting Twilight and Sunset to have lesbian sex does not make it so, and the writers can deny this and do whatever they please with the characters.

I don’t know about that… How people interact with a creative work is more than just the canon that it contains. For example, lets take the character Derpy. Originally she was just a random pony with no character used to fill background space. Then the fandom took her and created tonnes of content where she was an adorably-clumsy character. And now that’s now what most people think of when they hear her name. Before ep 100 all this was non-canonical fan speculation, but was a commonly held belief. Were fans “perpetuating a lie and misinformation” by discussing her almost exclusively within that context (usually without explicitly designating it as fanon)?

Uh, and since when did this fandom worship the “word of god” as it comes from the writers? With the amount of fanon that people regularly discuss/write about/draw/animate/parody/make music with, saying we must stay perfectly faithful to the original writer’s intent is fairly comical.
