I always felt Roxas was more of a complete person than Sora anyway.  
Roxas felt less like Sora minus the hearth, and more like Sora plus the various unheroic fears and desires a normal person has.  
So, take a person like Roxas, yank out anything that stands in their way of being a hero, and you’ve got Sora: A less ‘complete’ person, but one that is more useful for the problem.  
Making Roxas’ transformation into Sora more of a ‘Giving up part of yourself for the greater good’
 
But, then, I’m a Roxas fanboy :P  
So much of his story, especially his interactions with Axel, is exactly to my taste.

Well, look forward to this being applied in the future with regards to the soul being eternal and all that…

Yeah, doesn’t help Sweetie Prime, but Sweetie Bot is just as convinced that she is the real Sweetie. Going “nah, she’s just a machine because no-soul” doesn’t work for me. She might not be the Sweetie, but she is a Sweetie.

Well, regardless how real the copy is, it doesn’t change the fact that the original Sweetie Bell is dead. From her perspective it doesn’t help that there is an alternate version of her running around.

There are indeed well done examples of empty shells with implanted memories who develop into their own selves, including Roxas, the guy from Prototype, and Apache Chief from Justice League Unlimited. :)

Ooh, fun with metaphysics. If it thinks like Sweetie, acts like Sweetie, believes it is Sweetie, isn’t it Sweetie? It might not have a “soul” (which in Equestria may well be something you can prove), but it’s arguably capable of being a full person regardless. Perhaps a soul isn’t necessary for personhood, which would raise all sorts of issues in a world where the existence of souls is provable.

So the process was a failure. Very tragic…
