Let me spoil the entire anime for you. The princess in their world basically maintains the world by constant prayer. If she ever falters in this task, it is her obligation to summon three warriors (The Magic Knights) to kill her so that a new ‘Pillar of the World’ can be chosen.
The princess in the anime falls in love, which causes her thoughts to drift from the dedication required to maintain the world. Leading to the start of the anime.

No, as far as I can tell it’s just refrencing the plot of Magic Knight Rayearth. Just replacing Celestia and Sombra for princess and villian of that series.
Celestia shouldn’t be killed off (they’d never do it anyway I believe), she still doesn’t even have an episode in the show yet.
Also, lemme guess, this is pointing out how badly Celestia was characterized in this issue?
