You two (Clowndicks and Impious) should really consider writing something (perhaps a collaborative effort?), either a traditional fic or an in-depth analysis of the show or fanon/headcannon concepts that you feel are worth mentioning.
Just a thought, and if you ever do get around to it I’d love to read it.

That having been said, every now and then your ideas contradict each other.
Me and Clowndicks bounce a lot of ideas off each other, though.
Your explanations make a lot of sense and help explain some of the show’s ambiguity. Granted these are just your opinions and not cannon, nevertheless I approve.
I am curious. however, as to how you come to these conclusions. Do you have conversations with others regarding these matters or do you just prefer to mentally masturbate to these thoughts when you’re not bogged down with life.
It’s heavier and less contrived than the “she was posessed/indoctrinated” theory. I don’t believe Luna is completely innocent. Not one bit. I believe in redemption, though, and so far Luna hasn’t botched her second chance.
Luna is tormented by her crushing sense of inadequacy. Nothing she does is ever right, she’s always in her sister’s shadow. Nopony gives a shit about her. At least, in her eyes. So, she seeks to be her sister. She wants to be Celestia.
Nightmare Moon is a hallucination created by years of neglect, an idealized form that Luna strives to become.
