You know it’s like preferences for that, i like windows 8.1 Much than 7, because something like the task manager in 8.1
full

While in 7
full

For 8.1 can see not just application that running but also the memory, disk, cpu, network, that it use basically give me more needed information for me.

Other thing that i like

While 7
full

I prefer the functionality and needed information that it give than graphical interface, while windows 7 are great and fancy at user interface, but some of it needed information are hidden at least by default, but still that’s one of my preferences and everyone have their own preferences.

Anyway, what really annoys me about it is not that it doesn’t look more like Windows 7. I wouldn’t call Windows 7 dated, but I’ll definitely agree that it’s nto up to date.

But there are a number of things I mentioned earlier that they should have done to make the thing look more appealing, but inexplicably didn’t:

  1. Drop shadows. This would stop the whole thing looking quite so… flat.
  2. Subtle gradients or shine effects. Those are modern, and appealing. And without them, you’re just left with solid colours and it’s boring.
  3. The occasional curved edge or rounded corner. Windows 10 is all just squares and rectangles with completely sharp edges. It looks cold and clinical, not interesting and appealing (you know, like you’d expect your product to be!)
  4. More colours. As far as I’ve seen, it’s mostly just grey. Then there’s a little bit of blue. Any other colours are limited to menus and icons. And then many of the icons suffer the same problems as the rest of the UI.

And here’s one I didn’t think of earlier.

  5. Some kind of “effects.” What enamoured me to Windows 7 the most was the glowy that appears when you hover over something. And it doesn’t just appear, it lights up, with animation! It may not be bang up to date, but it was polished! And Windows 10 does not look polished!

It’s minimalism, but it’s bad minimalism.

Well, that’s your opinion. I love it, and Windows 7’s design is crap to me.
Also, Windows 10 is free because Windows 8 was received extremely negatively, due to some things that were absent and the abhorrent metro tile UI. So, it was an apology to that. Not because the style looks cheap.

It’s like it is with art. If I see a picture and I’m like, “I could do something of that calibre,” then I’m not going to hold it in high regard. Like art which takes zero effort and no artistic vision to create.
I should clarify, in that last sentence I’m not referring to people who aren’t good at drawing, I’m referring to “artists” who make garbage like this:

full

It doesn’t take vision, effort or skill to make. And that’s what I see when I look at the UI of Windows 10.
