But that literally would change nothing; the difference between a queen and a princess in this context is nothing. You would still suck just as much; you either need more humanizing moments (think that scene in A Bird in the Hoof, or that one in Make New Friends but Keep Discord) or cool moments (I’m not sure that she’s actually had any; plenty of moments where her implied power is supposed to indicate the magnitude of a threat, but few actually demonstrating that alleged power), or you just stay that character who is said to be powerful and cool, but just kind of sucks…

I was thinking about all those characters in ‘dragon ball’ where for all their titles (kami, kai, grand kai…etc) the higher the rank the more inconsequential they seem compared to goku’s power/relevance to the plot (more so if they’re hyped/presented to be someone serious).
 
celestia could be the space sun goddess empress of life and death but if she’s still treated the same way, it makes her more puny when compared if she just ‘princess’

But… Yeah, if we’re going to keep this conversation on the side of “the writers are just going to screw her up anyway”, I think it doesn’t really make a big difference. It’s personal, but I don’t know if it would be worse. At least calling her a queen would differentiate her from the other princesses and we could say that she is doing something different, more important and that is why she’s missing important events, messing up these things. Like “she’s on another level, and even though she’s messing up, she can’t be replaced and is invaluable. At least.
 
In my opinion, It’d just be better to use the character like they care about it and let her have some dignity back.

at my headcanon tia rejected the title of queen to rule with luna together… but luna was a spoiled brat who wanted rule alone anyways…

That raises some questions about the scenes where both the sun and moon are visible or moved at the same time then. Is the the sun raised by rotating the planet, whilst the moon is actually physically moved?

What exactly IS Celestia anyway? Does she really push / pull the Sun ’round the World, or just that part that belongs to her? i.e. Equestria. If she really is a Sun Goddess then why waste your time as a Queen? Some Village steps outta line ya just up the UV betas and cook ya some suckers…

I really don’t get where the whole Queens are old thing came from. Pretty much all the famous ones were Queen well before the age of even 30.
