The most positive thing about this piece, in my opinion, are the expressions on both mares. Velvet Remedy’s expression with ears down, narrowed eyes, and somewhat enigmatic smile has an intensity to it. This, coupled with Littlepip’s bewildered/confused look, works well together. With the nicely rough and slightly angular line work, and the dark background with sharp shadows and sickly green haze, it makes me think that the drawing is capturing a moment of “wrongness” or uncertainty, as if Littlepip is shocked by her friend’s behavior.
