Captain Planet was also solar-powered, but his was a more-direct reference to environmental issues. If he were covered in toxic sludge and the sunlight was blocked from him, he lost power. Removing enough to expose him to full sunlight again would power him back up. In that case it was a straight 1:1 ratio. Cut him off and he “depowered” quickly.
That always sounded bs to me - if Supes was solar-powered wouldn’t that mean he couldn’t fly at night?

He probably stores some charge. Also, moon reflects sunlight - makes me wonder if there were any Superman arcs where his night-power was dependent on the phase of the moon.
