Its like I said about animation, unless you go full gonk its hard to make a character outright unnattractive in animation.

Wow they didn’t hit the mark at all then.

In the art of equestria book they state that they wanted her to look slimy and repulsive like a bug crawling out from under a log.
 
So the canon INTENT behind her is that she’s ugly, but due to her premise (being a domineering succubus) many fans latched onto her for what she is in concept, plus the fact that in animations its very hard to make someone unnatractive without making them a gonk, yeah?

As an addendum, I think her lurid popularity stems more from the fact that she made the beloved brother of the show’s main protagonist into essentially an unwitting sex slave, beating the princess of love at her own game.
 
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but my own headcanon is that the more flush with fresh love she is, the healthier and more beautiful she becomes, while lack of feeding makes her more gaunt and monsterous. It’s one way to reconcile both interpretations of her appearance.

Last time I checked, every character in the show (that there’s porn of) has sex symbol status, so i’m not sure what porn of Chrysalis existing proves.
 
Basically, nobody is going to intentionally draw a character ugly in porn.

Not any more headcanon than the people who draw her as beautiful. Her actual beauty is entirely up to the viewer’s interpretation, of course, although for me her spotty skin and ragged, unkempt hair tell me she’s ugly and/or cares little for her appearance.
