The problem with communism is it assumes perfect equality, on paper.

In practice, communist governments are run through cronyism to ensure that only people who toe the line are in charge. They hold all the power, so it’s never equal or fair.

For communism to ever succeed, literally anyone would have to be able to run the country, as would be the case in a truly equal society. And the person running the country would be treated with the same respect as a fast food worker, as expected in a truly equal society. A government run education system would have to ensure anyone could do anything.

Money being pointless in such a society, everyone would work together to construct homes to live in, issued out equally by the government. Every home is identical, and identically equipped so as not to make anyone feel unequal. Everyone gets the same food, same clothes, same car to drive, all courtesy of the government being responsible for all industry and trade.

Now ask yourself this. If the government is running everything, how efficient will it be? How motivated will a politician be to govern well when there is no benefit to doing so? What about workers in manufacturing? Cargo transporters and equipment operators? Nuclear physicists and engineers? After all, EVERYONE is equal. Oh yes, let’s not forget that you can’t have any fun because you might be leaving someone out. Besides, having fun doesn’t help your comrades!

The Trabant took months to build from the order date, and when delivered frequently still needed fitting work done, not by the dealer, but by the owner! And this car is considered to be one of the most successful products produced by the Soviet Union. With over a million of them built over three decades, it certainly qualifies. But I promise you, you wouldn’t want to drive one.

Theoretical, not imaginary. but yeah, pretymuch. the problem tends to be that a system that by design has no leadership, is annoyingly easy for questionable groups/individuals to seize military control of. you might be able to work if you could pair that economic structure with a more stable form of government, like democracy, but at this point it’s been misused enough times that it’s reputation would make it a REALLY hard sell, even if you put safeguards in place beforehand to prevent seizure of power. and even then the economic structure has it’s own problems since it tends to break sooner or later when not in a closed system, which means trade and international companies become destabilizing factors…

that’s mainly because ‘modern communism’ is the bastard-child of comunist economics and facist politics. it’s debatable whether true Marxist Communism has ever been implemented, anywhere.

Maybe, but that doesn’t change the fact that Stalin read people’s mail, and sent anyone who “misbehaved” to Gulags. Would you call Hitler a communist? No. He was a fascist. Stalin was essentially the Soviet Union’s version of Hitler.

If Stalin was really a communist, then he wouldn’t have even wanted power in the first place. It is true that SOME of Stalin’s ideologies had communist themes to them, such as Stalin’s view on corporations, but the whole idea of communism revolves around a class-free society, where everyone gets treated with equal compassion, which Stalin’s Russia was most certainly NOT.

According to every primary source we have available, Stalin was a genuine believer in the Communist cause. Whether or not Marx would’ve been satisfied with Stalin or the Bolsheviks as a whole is an entirely different matter.

Communism and fascism are exact opposites you idiot.
If you’re thinking of the “Stalin was a communist” argument, Stalin was NOT a communist. He said he was so that he would get power, but he was not a communist in the slightest.
Read Karl Marx’s The Communist Manifesto and tell me that Communism and Fascism are similar.

Glimmer is a Communist (or rather, the closest thing this show will ever have to a Communist): she’d be very offended if you implied she was part of “the machine.”

@orbsah
Pretty much. Sombra would be a Fascist, while Glimmer would be a Communist.

I just can’t shake the idea of a Regional Provisional Govenor Glimmer (i.e. Grand Moff Glimmer), it’s all most too perfect.

Glimmer is a fashist military type, that works best from a distance… Say the outer rim of the Empire. The other was some Sith Lord, of legend.
