as though there is nothing else that you can do with fluttershy that doesn’t involve animals and her element
Well, it is kinda hard to avoid that sort of thing in a highly episodic format like this, where there might be eight or ten different writers in a season and character focus episodes usually have different writers; one of the few real problems I’ve had with the way the show has been presented from Season 2 onward is that I really think there should have been a lot more continuity whipcracking from the Story Editor position, specifically to cut down on this sort of thing.
why are you highlighting my words in blue?
So everyone involved knows exactly who and what I’m replying to; image comments get very convoluted very quickly, especially if there’s batshit insane screaming matches debate and/or discussion going on between several different commenters at once, and misrepresentation suuuper gets on my nerves, so I make it perfectly clear which part of what comment I’m addressing.
@Jarkes
I think he clicks the “Reply” button, takes a small snippet of the comment he’s replying to, and puts it in the actual “reply” link.
…And that’s how. Less clutter than a blockquote, and gets right to the point while maintaining a link to the original comment.
@TexasUberAlles
True, but the show itself does a poor job of conveying this message and instead tends to come off as just repeating it over and over again as though there is nothing else that you can do with fluttershy that doesn’t involve animals and her element, but that’s neither here nor there because I’m not upset about the episode, I just think it was weak episode that relied too much on contrivances about the characters to make itself seem important, Fluttershy was just the thing that I ended up being the most hung up on.
@Digitalgame
a little inconsistent when it comes to Fluttershys personality
I still say that sort of thing ain’t nearly the RUINED 5EVAR thing that so many people treat it as being; Flutterbutt pointed it out herself in Filli Vanilli that it takes baby steps, and sometimes she backslides. That frankly makes their character development feel more natural and realistic, because it’s pretty rare IRL for someone to learn A Very Important Lesson™ all at once and change some major aspect of their personality; it takes time, and most people slip up now and then.
@Background Pony #E941
Only if you’re doing the correct mental gymnastics, my actual point was that the writers are a little inconsistent when it comes to Fluttershys personality, probably moreso than any other character on the show.
I’m guessing you watched bootleg subs of the Japanese version to do that, since the only dubs that would’ve been available at the time I’m guessing (the 1980’s) would’ve been two completely different bastardized versions (either Battle of the Planets or G-Force).
@SFaccountant
My wife and I bonded over Science Ninja Team Gatchaman; teenagers in bird costumes punching alien gangsters in giant robot animals is clearly the path to Twoo Wuv.

she’s outright fainted from less pressure than that
She’s also flown up off of center stage in front of most of Ponyville while singing the lead vocals to a song she co-wrote. There was really almost no pressure involved at all in being Dash’s opening act– you could say it was a… baby step– and now she has a Ponylympic Silver Medal to show for it, something she wouldn’t have if she’d watched from the stands, and which can serve as a heck of a confidence boost in the future.
“Oh.. I have to go out and give a public presentation to the City Council about more funding for the town’s animal shelter?” [looks at Silver Medal hanging on the wall] “…Right! I can do this!”
