Talent is here, but skill is still not. Filly Rarity’s dresses were quite lovely for a kid performance, but adults won’t wear them. Twilight had raw power, but knew less spells than she know now, etc.
So, Babs most likely is doing it for free, for practice.

Apparently, in Equestria, once you’ve found your cutie mark you’re considered responsible enough to hold down a job. That’s kind of medieval, but in keeping with the show setting.
You don’t know that - for all we know, Babs might end up appearing next season.

Babs didn’t get kicked out of the CMCs for getting her cutie mark. She graduated from the CMCs for getting her cutie mark. It’s a positive thing, really.
For one thing, it seems really stupid to kick someone out of a club for doing something that is the whole purpose of being in said club.
Secondly, it basically enforces the whole ‘blank flanks vs. marked’ thing that, no matter how stupid, led to the rise of at least one Equestrian villain. Do we REALLY want to send that sort of message?
Is it really that bad? I mean, it was literally stated out loud by the CMC in the show, and that was a while ago.
Of course, that was before they all got cutie marks for being Cutie Mark Crusaders, but still.
Well, now NONE of them can be Crusaders.
