>“Well, there’s the fact that your comment makes no sense.”
Let me try to reword it then: If you don’t care how I define canon, then there isn’t much for us to discuss. I’m probably not going to be able to convince you of anything. And just telling me that the way I think of canon is wrong isn’t going to convince me of anything either. Sounds like an impasse, why mince words when odds are neither of us will budge?
@cheezedoodle
I’ve never seen (played?) Kinect Star Wars, nor am I really much of a Star Wars fan, but I think you’re on the right track. I was fine with the movies for the same reason I’m fine with reading fanfiction/fan comics: even things that I don’t consider canon can be fun to read/watch/experience. The Equestria Girls movies didn’t change how I viewed ponies, but I still consider watching them a worthwhile experience. As their own extension off of the show, they were reasonably entertaining.
I imagine Exedrus might see the movies and enjoy them in the same way a Star Wars fan might still enjoy Kinect Star Wars. No need to assume sinister motives.
Also, I suggest dropping this line of conversation, because canon/not-canon arguments are never productive.
Well, there’s the fact that your comment makes no sense. Why would you ignore the truth if you DON’T inexplicably hate the movies?
>“Nobody cares what you ’define’ as ’canon’.”
If that’s the case, then I guess we don’t need to discuss this any further, no?
No need to bump a month old comment.
Nobody cares what you ‘define’ as ‘canon’. Doesn’t change the fact that the movies are.
Ignoring them makes as much as ignoring season two.
The toppest of keks, my good sir.
I see.
I don’t hate Equestria Girls. Nor do I understand why people would. I just have a strict definition of what’s canon (that excludes it). The movies were alright enough that I watched them a few times. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I myself can’t understand the mindset of the people who have an absolute hatred towards Equestria Girls
Sure, the movies aren’t masterpieces, the high school concept is limiting and cliched, and there are some other issues within them, but hating them absolutely? Whatever did Equestria Girls do? Kill their family, piss on their corpses, and burn their house?
Why do you think the Egyptians flocked there?
No it wasn’t because it was nutrient-rich and a great source of water in the Egyptian desert don’t question my science.
Ah, I see.
>“So if someone doesn’t like it, it can be safely disregarded without detriment to their enjoyment of the show.”
Yep, that’s pretty much how I view it too.
Because people love denial.
Sure, it supplements the lore and our understanding of it, and that’s what I like about it. What I’m saying is on a purely technical level, there’s nothing in any individual episode of FiM that’s directly influenced by or has been changed by EQG. So if someone doesn’t like it, it can be safely disregarded without detriment to their enjoyment of the show.
Which is why I don’t get why people get so adamantly hung up on making sure that everybody else agrees that it’s super-duper not canon nuh-uh never happened.
>“the canonicity or lack thereof of EQG changes nothing about FiM. Literally nothing.”
But it would add in events, worlds, magic, lore, characters, etc to the canon of MLP FiM. How does the existence of the Dazzlings, who were at some point banished from Equestria by Starswirl, not change the canon/history of Equestria? Or how does knowing about Sunset Shimmer, as a past (failed) student of Celestia, not change our understanding of Celestia and her relationship with Twilight?
I will never understand why people are so hell-bent on insisting that EQG isn’t canon. For one, it’s never once been stated anywhere or by anyone connected to the production that that’s the case. For two, the canonicity or lack thereof of EQG changes nothing about FiM. Literally nothing.
The only explanation I can come up with is that people are so incredibly butthurt over the very idea of it that they feel like they need to make everyone else hate it by making every conversation about it insufferable.
“Hey did you see that thing in Equestria G-
“YEAH BUT IT’S NOT CANON THO”
“Wait, says who~~”
“IT’S NOT CANON IT DOESN’T COUNT IT’S NOT REAL”
“Who even ca~~”
“NOT CANON NOT CANON NOT CANON NOT CANON LA LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU”
So wait, how is EQG not canon?
Twilight mentioned an event that happened in-universe, which links both universes together.
Not to mention the numerous other parallels.
That was said in their universe, not in the show.
Remember guys, Comics MLP has their own universe like EQG, the only canon universe here is the one in the show.
kkthxbb
Really? I’ve never noticed!
Joking aside, I usually don’t pay attention to the fact that Twilight has wings. Not because I hated Magical Mystery Cure or anything, it’s just that it’s not something I pay attention to.
wait. WHAT ? ithought that was an animation error D:
